ENGINEERING INDUSTRY
DRIVING FORCE FOR THE ECONOMY
Engineering Industry is becoming a prime focus for both public and private sector to support various allied industries and manufacturing sectors in Pakistan. Keeping in view the target of 13% annual growth in exports by 2012; the government has allocated US$ 37.88 million (2010-11) for the development of the Industrial sector. Moreover, a total investment of over US$ 50 billion has been made in Pakistan during the last five years and this investment has given a new impetus to the Engineering industry in terms of technological support required for such an investment.
Pakistan’s engineering industry accounts for 18.5% of the overall GDP and contributes significantly to the overall exports of Pakistan. A National Engineering Exports Development Strategy (NEEDS) has been prepared to meet the demand for quality engineering products and services to achieve production efficiency and to increase the exports of engineering goods by facilitating technology transfer compatible to the local industry.
